Community through membership

Silent Majority, Ghana was first formed as a collective response to anti-queer aggression by Ghanaian police. The signature campaign that brought together over 1600 people around the world to contribute their voices in support of queer Ghanaians also brought together a core group of 15 people who formed the original members of SMG. This group steered the collective’s work during its first two years building a strong queer feminist community in Ghana, the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands.

Developing community in organizing work is necessary for success. Joining Silent Majority, Ghana as a member will give you an opportunity to shape the organization’s strategy through meeting participation, enhance your knowledge and organizing skills through facilitated conversations in virtual and in-person educational retreats, and develop a transnational community invested in queer freedom.

Silent Majority, Ghana membership is on an annual basis. Members will have access to:

  • videos and facilitation guides that expand popular education offerings

  • bi-annual meetings with Silent Majority, Ghana leadership to learn about the organization’s strategic vision and offer feedback.

  • facilitated popular education sessions where they can talk to one another and expand their networks.

  • preferred rates for events where they can meet and be in conversation with queer activists on the ground in Ghana and the United States.

  • informal meetings where they can share space and time with one another.

  • opportunities to lead popular education sessions in collaboration with Silent Majority, Ghana leadership.

We take safety seriously at Silent Majority, Ghana. In a climate where queer people, allies, and advocates are subject to surveillance, harassment, and threats of prison and conversion therapy, we want to ensure that all who participate in our facilitated programming are committed to the cause of queer freedom. Your donation and completion of the membership form serve as a screening for this commitment. Suggested donation for members is $25. No one is turned away for lack of funds. If you would like to join SMG but cannot make the suggested contribution, email us at info@silentmajorityghana.com.
